Shion is one of the ogres Rimuru takes in after their village is destroyed, given a name, a new form and the title of secretary. The job description is loose. She carries an enormous blade, fights by hitting things until the situation improves, and treats any instruction from her master as urgent regardless of its actual content.
The cooking is a genuine running joke in a series that otherwise plays fair with its characters. Her food looks correct and hospitalises people, and the gag runs long enough that others build strategies around avoiding lunch. Her devotion is total and slightly alarming, and her rivalry with Shuna over proximity to Rimuru gets more attention than most fights do.
Fuse's setting gives named monsters a jump in power and a humanoid shape, and Shion is the clearest demonstration of what naming does. An ogre becomes an oni, then becomes something considerably worse for anyone standing in front of her. She is one of the few characters the series will simply let hit a problem.
Spelling SHION
SHION is five letters for three Japanese beats, shi-o-n, where SHI takes three of the letters and the final N takes one on its own. The word 紫苑 names a flower, the aster, and it is an ordinary Japanese given name. The trap is the middle: SHION rather than SHIAN or SHEON, with the I and the O sitting side by side without blending.
