Kotaro Bokuto captains Fukurodani and hits harder than almost anyone in the series. He also has moods, numbered by his teammates for convenience, which arrive without warning and take his volleyball with them. A blocked spike, a poor set, an unkind remark, and a nationally ranked ace becomes a sulking heap on the bench who has to be talked back into the match.
The talking is done by Keiji Akaashi, his setter, who has turned it into an applied science: what to say, what to withhold, which piece of praise still works the second time. Their partnership is the clearest picture Haikyu offers of what a setter actually does, which is less about tossing a ball than about keeping six egos pointed the same way.
He is also the only person in the story who can teach Hinata anything about being an ace, since both play on instinct and neither can explain how. Furudate uses Bokuto to make a point the sports pages rarely admit. Elite ability and emotional steadiness are separate skills, and plenty of great players never pick up the second one.
Spelling BOKUTO
BOKUTO is the family name and the one the game asks for. Six letters, no doubled consonants, and no long vowel to trim, which makes it kinder than most Haikyu names. Fukurodani is the owl school, fukuro being the Japanese word for owl, and his name is written with kanji used for a horned owl. Both O's sit in even positions.
