Kenma Kozume sets for Nekoma and would rather be at home. He has no stamina, no interest in shouting, and no obvious appetite for competition, and he is still the most dangerous player on his side of the net because he spends every rally collecting information. A blocker who commits early gets filed. A hitter with a favourite line gets filed. Then he uses it.

The gaming frame is not decoration. He talks about matches as systems with exploitable rules, and the series lets that be a legitimate way to love a sport rather than a lesser one. His friendship with Kuroo, the captain who dragged him into the club in the first place, supplies the only reason he needs to keep turning up.

He works as the counterweight to Hinata, who plays on pure appetite. The two meet early, get on immediately, and spend the series pulling each other toward the middle. Nekoma's cats against Karasuno's crows sets up the fixture the story keeps promising, which the characters call the battle at the rubbish dump.

Spelling KENMA

KENMA is the given name here, not Kozume. Five letters, no doubled consonants, no long vowels, and only two vowel sounds to place. The N and the M sit side by side, which is the one spot people hesitate, since English rarely stacks those two letters. Say ken-ma in two flat beats and the row fills itself.
