Dabi turns up in the League of Villains as a quiet man with patchwork skin, staples, and blue flames hot enough to end a fight in one pass. The catch is built into him. His body cannot tolerate the temperature his quirk produces, so sustained use cooks him from the inside and leaves the scarring everyone can see. He uses it anyway, which tells you most of what you need about his priorities.
He talks less than the rest of the League and watches more. Where the others want chaos or a throne, Dabi wants particular people exposed in public, and he is patient about it in a way the story keeps quietly pointing at. Long before the manga confirmed anything, readers had assembled a full theory about who he was out of eye colour, flame colour and two or three stray lines of dialogue.
The name is the joke, if that is the word. Dabi is written with characters meaning cremation, a term from Buddhist funeral rites, which is the sort of alias you choose when you have already decided how your own story ends. Kohei Horikoshi introduced him early, left him in the background for years, and let the payoff land during the war arcs.
Spelling DABI
Four letters, DABI, and it is an alias rather than a name anyone gave him. Two beats, da-bi, both short, with nothing doubled and no long vowel to lose on the way into English. The word means cremation in Japanese. Watch the vowels rather than the consonants here, since DEBI and DABE both sound close enough out loud to get typed by accident.
