Diane is the Serpent's Sin of Envy, one of seven knights blamed for a crime none of them committed and scattered across Britannia for ten years. She is a giant, which in this world means a warrior race with command over the earth itself, and her weapon Gideon is a hammer the size of a house that she keeps buried in the ground when she is not swinging it.
The gap in her memory is somebody else's doing. She spends a long stretch of the series unable to account for a section of her own past, including a friendship that mattered a great deal to a fairy king called Harlequin, who remembers every minute of it and has to watch her not. It is the most patient plot thread the series has.
Nakaba Suzuki ran Seven Deadly Sins in Weekly Shonen Magazine from 2012 to 2020, forty one volumes, and A-1 Pictures animated it from 2014, with Netflix carrying it to a large audience outside Japan. The cast take their names from Arthurian romance and their powers from a much sillier place, and Diane sits comfortably in both registers.
Spelling DIANE
DIANE is five letters ending in a silent E, and the Japanese ディアンヌ suggests Dianne with two N's, which is the wrong end of the trap. One N here, one E, no doubling anywhere in the row. Three vowels in five letters makes the shape easy once the D lands. Giants in this series get one name only, so there is no surname to worry about.
