Escanor is the Lion's Sin of Pride, and his power runs on a clock. It rises with the sun, peaks exactly at midday, and drains away after, so the same man is either a timid barkeep who cannot meet your eye or a figure who wins fights by announcing that he has already won. He carries a divine axe called Rhitta that nobody else can lift.
The joke the series builds around him is that pride is his sin in the technical sense. At his peak the arrogance is not a pose, it is an accurate measurement, and everyone in the room can feel the temperature climbing. The version of him that exists at night is not an act either. Both are the man, which is more interesting than a straightforward transformation gimmick.
Nakaba Suzuki holds him back for a long time. Escanor is the last of the seven to properly enter the story, which gives the reveal room to work, and his fights are short by design, since a fight with him at midday is not really a fight. The Arthurian legends hand that same midday surge of strength to Gawain.
Spelling ESCANOR
ESCANOR is seven letters with a C where an English speaker might reach for a K, which is the main thing to get right. Three vowels, no doubling, and the ending sounds like an ordinary English suffix, so once the OR lands the front of the row does the rest. The name comes out of Arthurian romance, like most of this cast, and no surname goes with it.
