Erza Scarlet
She changes armour mid-swing in a flash of light, and her own guild is more frightened of her than of anything she fights.

Erza Scarlet joined Fairy Tail as a child with one eye missing and a history she would not discuss. By the time the story starts she is an S-class mage, the guild's enforcer, and the reason its members stop breaking furniture the moment somebody shouts that she is on her way back. Her magic is Requip, which stores weapons and armour in a pocket dimension and swaps them out instantly.
Requip in her hands is a wardrobe of roughly a hundred sets, each tuned to one job. Heaven's Wheel throws swords. Flame Empress armour halves fire damage. Adamantine turns her into a wall. She switches between them inside a single exchange, which is the closest a shonen fight gets to a character sheet in motion. Off duty she eats strawberry cake with the same seriousness, and she has threatened people over it.
Hiro Mashima ran Fairy Tail in Weekly Shonen Magazine from 2006 to 2017, sixty three volumes, with the anime starting in 2009. Erza reached the front rank of the cast almost immediately. The Tower of Heaven arc is where the discipline turns out to be scar tissue rather than temperament, and it is the point where the series proves it can stop being funny when it wants to.
Spelling ERZA
Four letters, ERZA, and the Z ends the guessing early. The Japanese is エルザ, which reads Eruza, and Japanese uses a single sound where English splits R from L. Say the name out loud and ELZA and ELSA both feel correct. The official spelling picks R and Z, and her surname, Scarlet, never appears on the board.
