Juvia Lockser controls water and, for most of her childhood, could not stop summoning it. Rain followed her everywhere, people moved away from her, and she grew up quiet and apologetic under a permanent grey sky. She joined Phantom Lord as one of the Element Four and fought Fairy Tail as an enemy before the rain stopped, which happened during that fight, for reasons she attributes entirely to Gray.
Her body can turn to water, so physical attacks pass straight through her, and she fights with whips and jets of the stuff. Her habit of speaking about herself in the third person survives the change in personality. Juvia says Juvia is fine, Juvia will handle it, and the guild long ago stopped remarking on it. So has the reader, after a hundred chapters of it.
The fixation on Gray is her comedy engine and, occasionally, the thing that makes her dangerous. She counts imaginary rivals, files his rejections under encouragement, and turns genuinely frightening when somebody hurts him. Hiro Mashima uses her for jokes far more often than for fights, then hands her one of the better late-series fights to remind everyone what a water mage can do.
Spelling JUVIA
JUVIA is five letters and the V is the letter to hunt for, since Japanese has no native V sound and the katakana ジュビア uses a B instead. Said aloud the name lands close to lluvia, the Spanish word for rain, which suits a woman who carried her own weather around. Watch the opening J rather than a G, and note the surname Lockser is not wanted.
