Tenya Iida reports rule violations, chops the air with both hands while explaining anything, and gets elected class representative of 1-A largely because he is the only person visibly keen on the job. His quirk, Engine, puts a motor in each calf. He runs by burning fuel his own body produces, which means he has to keep it fresh or the engines stall at the worst moment.
The Iida family makes heroes. His brother Tensei ran the Ingenium agency with dozens of sidekicks under him, and Tenya expected to inherit the name in the usual course of things. A villain who hunts professional heroes ends that plan, and the series hands its most rule-bound student an arc about revenge, during which he breaks every rule he has ever quoted at anybody else.
The recovery is what makes him worth reading. He returns to the class as someone who has been wrong in a way he cannot argue his way out of, and he keeps the formality without the certainty underneath it. Bones gives him some of the best running animation in the show, which matters for a hero whose quirk is going very fast in a straight line.
Spelling IIDA
Four letters, IIDA, and the double I at the front is what breaks people. The Japanese reads i-i-da, with that opening vowel genuinely held across two beats, so the doubling is real rather than a typo. English almost never starts a word with II, so the correct shape looks wrong on the row. This is the family name; Tenya is the given name and not the answer.
