Johnny was a teenage riding prodigy with a bad attitude until a bullet took the use of his legs and his family stopped speaking to him. He is sitting in a wheelchair in San Diego in 1890, watching the start of the Steel Ball Run, when a rider named Gyro Zeppeli drops a steel ball and Johnny's toe moves. That twitch is the reason he enters a nine-thousand-kilometre race he has no business riding.
The ball did it because of spin, and spin is the physical law Part 7 runs on the way earlier parts ran on breathing and Stands. Johnny's own power, Tusk, fires his fingernails at whatever he is aiming at, which is a grim resource when nails grow back slowly. He rides brilliantly and walks not at all, so he stays in the saddle while other competitors dismount to fight.
Hirohiko Araki moved the series to the monthly Ultra Jump in 2005 and reset the world, so this Johnny is a fresh universe rather than a descendant. His legal name is Jonathan Joestar, the same name as the man who started the whole saga in 1880s England. Steel Ball Run ran until 2011 and is the part most long-time readers name as the best.
Spelling JOHNNY
JOHNNY hides two problems in six letters. The H is silent, so nobody typing by ear puts it in, and the N is doubled, so JONY and JOHNY both feel right and both fail. Every Joestar name in the series starts with the same JO, which means the first two tiles are free once you know the family. The Y at the end is the other giveaway.
