Jotaro opens Stardust Crusaders by locking himself in a police cell, because he is convinced an evil spirit has attached itself to him and he does not want it near anyone. The spirit is Star Platinum, a Stand with inhuman speed and precision, and the cell holds him only until his grandfather Joseph arrives to explain what a Stand is. Then they leave for Egypt, because his mother will die in fifty days unless they kill DIO.
Star Platinum punches in flurries and Jotaro shouts through them, which is how ORA became one of the loudest sounds in manga. It can also stop time for a few seconds, an ability he acquires late and uses sparingly. His other line, yare yare daze, has been translated as give me a break, good grief and what a pain, and none of them fit, so most fans stopped bothering.
This is the arc where Araki replaced the breathing techniques of the first two parts with Stands, named the enemies after tarot cards, and set the template that every later part varies. Weekly Shonen Jump ran it from 1989 to 1992. Jotaro then reappears across three further parts, aging into the taciturn adult who explains the rules to somebody younger.
Spelling JOTARO
JOTARO is six letters and both O's are long in Japanese. 承太郎 is properly Jōtarō, which unpacked into plain letters would be JOUTAROU, four tiles too many. English dropped every one of those extra vowels. The row wants the given name, so Kujo is out. Three beats, jo-ta-ro, and the JO opening is shared with every other Joestar in the game.
